Frequently Asked Questions

What does GCG expect from its volunteers?

For all roles, you must be reachable and committed. Stable internet connection, availability to attend meetings, and ability keep contact with your team are essential.

Are roles at GCG paid?

As GCG is a pro-bono consulting organisation for charities, all of our roles are non-paid. You will not get any monetary compensation for the work you do. If you are motivated by consulting work, making an impact, and genuinely want to help the community, then this is the job for you. Warm and fuzzy feelings are guaranteed.

When do applications close?

This will vary from semester to semester, but majority of our applications will open around Week 2/3 of the university semester and will close around Week 11 of the university semester.

Do you accept international students?

Yes

Can I apply to more than one branch?

Based on the structure and day to day operations of our projects and branches, applicants can only apply to one branch.

If I am successful in obtaining an offer to join GCG, when do I start?

All consulting and functional roles commence in Week 1 in the university semester. All new starters must be available for induction and consulting training, which usually commences during o-week. This could change between semesters.

How many positions do you recruit for each semester?

GCG does not hold a quota for positions in each semester. We recruit all our roles based on merit.

What happens at a GCG recruitment day?

GCG recruitment days involve group and individual activities. To do well, it’s a good idea to research GCG, relax, smile, practice case study interviews, communicate clearly and give others in the group activities a chance to speak too!

When do you hold your GCG recruitment day?

GCG recruitment day is usually held during the mid year break on a weekend, after university exams are completed.

When will I hear back from you?

After closing date, applicants should receive an email notifying the outcome of their application within one week. Due to the sheer volume of applications we receive, we are unable to provide individual feedback for applicants who do not receive invitations to our recruitment day. All applicants invited to our recruitment day will receive personalised feedback on their performance, regardless of their application outcome, usually within 24-48 hours of the recruitment day.

Can I defer my offer?

This will be reviewed on a case by case basis by our recruitment team. We do ask applicants to be upfront and honest about their commitments over the next 6-12 months, as we do ask our volunteers to guarantee a commitment to GCG for at least 12 months.

What happens if I am unable to attend my GCG recruitment day?

Applicants invited to a GCG recruitment day and are unable to attend will no longer be considered for the position.
